It is our desire to allow students to explore and discover the created world around them in order for them to better know God.


A child should be in awe and wonder of God’s creation: its beauty, complexity, diversity, intricacy and majesty. Our desire is to give children ample time to interact with the world around them through nature study and nature journaling.

Observing, researching, dissecting, and exploring enhance a child’s appreciation and understanding, which, in turn, produce a fascination and curiosity with the natural world. Our approach to science is primarily through observation in the lower grades and advances to the scientific method with dissections and lab work in the upper grades.

In addition, each class spends time in the outdoors on a weekly basis to observe, takes notes and sketch. Water coloring and research continues in the classroom after observations.

  • Grade 4:  Insects, Annelids, Trees, Fungus, Reptiles, Mammals, Microorganisms, Fish, Birds, Flowers
  • Grade 5: Microscopes, Ecosystems, Anatomy/Physiology: Spider, Frog, Rat, Human Growth: Cells and Cell Function/Mitosis, DNA and Hereditary, Cell and Cell Function/Mitosis, Human Movement: Skeletal/Muscular Systems, Human Sensitivity: Nervous System, Human Respiration: Respiratory & Circulatory Systems, Human Feeding and Excretion: Digestive System,  Human Reproductive: Urogenital  System
