Academics: Geography


As children study the Humanities, they also learn about the world around them as it is now in relation to the historical period in their curriculum.

Map skills are taught at the most basic level, finding our own hometown on the map, then studying Africa, Europe, North and South America, and Asia as their studies take them through history.




  • Grade 1: Focus on what a map is and becoming familiar with and locating  Franklin, Tennessee, United States and Israel on a map, in correlation with the Humanities unit.
     
  • Grade 2: Focus on the world and then the continent of Africa, in correlation with the Humanities unit on ancient Egypt.
     
  • Grade 3: Focus on the continents, Europe, Ancient Greece, and Rome, in correlation with the Humanities unit on Ancient Greece and Rome. In addition, third grade studies Geography in the context of its Science units: the Solar System, the Earth, and Geology.
     
  • Grade 4: Focus on direction and the study of the British Isles and Italy, in correlation with the Humanities unit on the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
     
  • Grade 5: Focus on the rotation of the Earth as well as North and South America, relating to the Humanities study of the Explorers and Early American history.
     
  • Grade 6: Focus on map reading, the United States, Westward Expansion, and Vietnam
